Product Overview
The Digital Precision Powder Scale (DPPS) was a high-precision electronic scale designed specifically for measuring powder charges for ammunition reloading. It provided accurate measurements to 0.1 grain precision and featured an easy-to-read digital display, calibration capability, and compatibility with the PACT Digital Precision Powder Dispenser.
Important: Repair Limitations
We want to be transparent about the current status of this product:
- The DPPS is no longer manufactured or stocked
- Critical components (especially load cells) are no longer available globally
- We cannot offer repair services regardless of the issue
- Replacement parts are not available
We understand this may be disappointing, but we're providing this information and DIY solutions to help you maximize the remaining life of your DPPS if possible.

Factory Calibration Procedure for "ERR 1"
If your DPPS displays an "ERR 1" message, you can attempt a factory recalibration:
- Place the scale on a stable, level surface away from drafts, vibrations, and electronic interference
- Remove any items from the scale pan
- Press the CALIBRATE/MENU button
- When prompted to calibrate, confirm by pressing the GRAMS/YES button
- The display will show "CAL 0" - leave the pan empty and press GRAMS/YES
- When prompted for a weight (typically "CAL 50" or similar), place the appropriate calibration weight on the pan
- Press GRAMS/YES to complete calibration
- The scale should return to normal weighing mode if successful

Environmental Factors Affecting Performance
The DPPS is highly sensitive to environmental conditions. If experiencing erratic readings, check:
- Vibrations: Ensure the scale is on a solid, stable surface
- Air Currents: Keep away from vents, fans, and open windows
- RF Interference: Keep cell phones, wireless devices, and motors at least 3 feet away
- Static Electricity: In dry environments, static can affect readings. Consider a humidifier
- Temperature: Avoid rapid temperature changes around the scale
Operating Tips for Remaining Functional Units
- Power On: Always allow the scale to warm up for 1-2 minutes before calibrating or using
- Measurement Mode: Toggle between grains and grams using the GRAMS/GRAINS button
- Zero the Scale: Use the ZERO/NO button to tare the scale with an empty pan or container
- Gentle Handling: Place items gently on the scale to avoid shocking the load cell
- Storage: When not in use, remove the pan and store in a clean, dry place
Trickle Mode for Dispenser Compatibility
If you're using the DPPS with a PACT Digital Precision Powder Dispenser:
- Press CALIBRATE/MENU
- Press ZERO/NO when asked about calibration
- Press ZERO/NO when asked about printing
- Press GRAMS/YES when prompted for trickle mode (tric)
- This activates the infrared data port for communication with the Dispenser
Alternative Products
If your DPPS is beyond repair or showing signs of failure, we recommend considering these modern alternatives:
- Lyman Pro-Touch 1500 Digital Scale
- RCBS RangeMaster 750 Electronic Scale
- Hornady G3-1500 Electronic Scale
- Combined scale/dispenser units for improved workflow
Modern digital scales offer improved features, reliability, and ongoing support that unfortunately we cannot provide for the legacy DPPS product.
